To get started with the recruitment process, candidates are required to make an online application via the Bank of America application system. Applications for our programs comprise of two stages; an online application, followed by a digital interview. Your online application must be completed by the application deadline in order for you to be considered. For applications to our Developer or Quant roles, the digital interview will also include two programming questions. Commencing from the 2020/2021 application cycle, applications to our Global Markets roles will also including two programming questions. If you are able to complete it, please do so to the best of your ability. If you do not know how to code, you may skip to the end of the digital interview.

The Recruiting Process

During the application stage, you will need to complete the following:

-         Digital Interview

Once you have finished the stages above, your application is then considered complete and our recruiters will begin reviewing your application. If your application is selected to progress to the next round, you will be invited for further assessment. This will typically consist of one of more competency-based interviews to be conducted over the phone or at a Bank of America office.

These interviews are typically conducted by representatives from the business area you are applying to. Some instances will include a group component or presentation exercise. Further details regarding your final stage assessment will be communicated as you progress in the recruitment process.

Tips for a successful video interview

1. You will be given time to practice before the actual interview questions. Be sure to make full use of this time to get accustomed to the HireVue platform.

2. Choose the right environment to do the interview. Ensure that you are in a well-lit room, free from any possible disturbances.

3. Dress appropriately.

4. Answer the questions in a clear and concise manner, just like you would during any other interview.

5. Look at the camera, and not at the screen.

6. Smile, make eye contact and speak clearly.

7. Lastly, be natural and be yourself.

Tips for a successful video interview

Hi and thanks for your interest in our campus programs. I’m Steven, and I’m Lauren – and if you’re watching this video hopefully that means you’ve made the smart choice to apply to one of our programs and perhaps are even lucky enough to have already been invited to first round.

While most of our employees can remember what it was like to be in your shoes and going through the recruitment process, not many of us had the chance to use on demand video interviewing in the process. We’re really excited to use this tool as it allows us to meet many more of you at first round and makes for a faster and more efficient recruiting process where you get to do your first round interview, when and where it suits your schedule.

As with any interview, there are still some things that you can do to ensure you are most successful. So we wanted to share some of those with you before we get started.

First thing I would say is - Be yourself. This process is to help us get to know you and your aspirations better. Try to relax and enjoy it. No need to look directly at the camera the whole time but do consider your eye contact and body language the same way you would if you were interviewing in person.

And part of that is makingsure you are set up well. Choose a quiet, comfortable space without distractions. Check your lighting, technical requirements and sound before you get started. The tool will prompt you with some details of things you should think of in this regard.

Next thing I would suggest is to dress professionally. It’s important to consider your attire and dress for the role you are applying to ensure you look and feel your best the same way you would if you were attending an in person interview.

And last but not least -Practice. Take the practice questions before hand so you feel confident going into the real deal. Once you start the formal on demand interview, you will have just 30 seconds to read and listen to the question before delivering your response. You will have up to 3 minutes to deliver your reply, but don’t feel like you need to use all this time – you can move onto the next question at any time as soon as you are done.

The good news is, we’ll remind you of all this in the tool and we’ll give you prompts along the way to ensure it’s a really easy process to take part in.

What are the requirements to be considered for campus opportunities? 

Each program has individual requirements. However, to be considered for any program, you must be currently enrolled in a college/university or advanced degree program. If you are not currently enrolled, you can visit careers.bankofamerica.com/ to explore opportunities for experienced hires.

When do internships take place?

Summer internships usually run for 8 to 10 weeks between April and May for India, and between June and August for all other locations except Australia.

What are the requirements to be considered for campus opportunities?

Each business area has individual requirements, but candidates must demonstrate a combination of academic aptitude, quantitative skills, strategic and creative thinking, and written and oral communications skills. In addition, you must have obtained or are realistically expecting to obtain a minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent for analyst roles. For MBA positions, completion of an MBA or equivalent advanced degree is required. Underlying this, you must demonstrate your desire for a career in banking. For pre-internship opportunities you should have achieved or be on track to receive ABB or higher at A-level (or equivalent if outside of the UK). Note that if your grades did not meet this criteria, but there were extenuating circumstances around your examinations, please let us know in your application.

Can I defer an offer?

No, Bank of America Merrill Lynch does not offer you the chance to defer.

They then all come to DC for Student Leaders Summit where they look at the connection between business, nonprofits and government and how we work together to solve problems. And they go to the hill they meet with the congressional group from their district to talk about the issues in their community, and what they want to see addressed. And they come back from DC with a renewed interest in how they can really use their voice to change the world.

John McIvor, the bank's head of international communications, told CNBC.com that he could not confirm the circumstances surrounding Erhardt's death, though he did provide some insight into the life of an intern.

"The whole point about internships is to give students a positive experience and to get to know our firm and us to know them well, so we can work out who would be the best fit to join the company full-time after they graduate," he said.

"I'm not going to comment on what hours people choose to spend in the office voluntarily," he added. "But if you think about it logically, what we're trying to do is something that happens across all the big firms. We're looking to get to know them better."

The Independent reported that it spoke to others familiar with the matter who confirmed how grueling life can be for interns:

One former investment banker confirmed that interns could regularly work 14 hour days.

The banker, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Independent: "Interns can regularly clock up to 100 or even 110 hours a week, but people are fully aware that banking is hard work and the company constantly reminds you to manage upwards in order to not overheat. This is the first time I've heard of something like this happening and banking is a very close culture."
