23 Best Small Business Credit Cards – Reviews & Comparison

Small business credit cards are increasingly popular business financing options, particularly for entrepreneurs who don’t qualify for traditional business loans and don’t have access to networks filled with deep-pocketed family members, friends, and colleagues. No matter what your business does, a credit card can probably help – as long as you use credit wisely and avoid making purchases your company can’t afford.

Small business credit cards typically have higher spending limits and more generous rewards programs than consumer cards. Some have additional benefits, such as low APRs, attractive balance transfer promotions, personalized concierge service, and fringe benefits. However, many also come with annual fees and require good or excellent credit to qualify.

The Basics of Small Business Credit Cards: What to Know

Keep in mind that qualifying for business credit cards is a bit different from qualifying for consumer credit cards. Some issuers simply require you to submit a valid Social Security number and affirm in writing that you’ll use the card exclusively for business purposes.

Such laid-back issuers welcome freelancers and solopreneurs – basically, anyone who files a Schedule C at tax time, including people who don’t really think of themselves as business owners.

Some issuers are more strict. They request a federal employer identification number (EIN), seek evidence of incorporation, or ask for financial statements. If you can’t prove that you actually own an incorporated business with legitimate cash flow, you won’t qualify.

Also, remember that business credit cards are exempt from some of the protections of the CARD Act, including the requirement that card issuers regularly notify cardholders of changes in terms and conditions. The following small business credit cards offer a favorable mix of advantages and drawbacks for business owners with strong credit.

The Best Small Business Credit Cards Right Now

Without further ado, these are the best small business credit cards on the market right now. They include a mix of low-interest credit cards, travel rewards credit cards, cash back credit cards, and general-purpose rewards cards.

1. Chase Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card

Ink Business Unlimited Card Art 7 30 21

The Chase Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card is an annual-fee-free business credit card that echoes the Chase Freedom Unlimited® Credit Card, a consumer credit card that also earns unlimited 1.5% cash back.

Ink Business Unlimited accrues cash back via Ultimate Rewards points, which can be redeemed for cash, gift cards, travel purchase, and general merchandise.

Additional perks include a generous sign-up bonus – worth $750 after you spend $7,500 in purchases within 3 months – and a 12-month, 0% APR promotion on purchases. The latter is a rarity among small business credit cards.

Ink Business Cash Card Art 7 30 21

The Chase Ink Business Cash® Credit Card is a popular business credit card with a generous cash back rewards program, solid sign-up bonus, and reasonable APR. It holds down the Ink stable with the Chase Ink Business Preferred and Unlimited Cards (see below and above), both of which offer different (but no less rewarding) opportunities for frequent spenders.

This card has a nice sign-up bonus. After you spend at least $7,500 within 3 months of opening your account, you get $750 bonus cash back.

The ongoing rewards program is great too:

  • From day one, you earn 5% cash back for office supply store and communications purchases (including Internet, TV, landline, and cell phone services), up to $25,000 per year.
  • You earn 2% cash back on gas station and restaurant purchases, up to $25,000 per year. After reaching the $25,000 cap, you earn unlimited 1% cash back on these spending categories.
  • All other purchases earn 1% unlimited cash back as well.

Redeem accumulated cash back for statement credits or direct deposits starting at $20, airfare booked through Chase’s Ultimate Rewards portal (which offers the opportunity to boost your cash back by 20%, turning $500 in cash back into $625 in travel purchases), gift cards, and Amazon purchases. Redemptions start at $20.

  • Sign-up Bonus: Earn $750 bonus cash back when you spend at least $7,500 within 3 months of signing up.
  • Key Fees: There’s no annual fee. Foreign transactions cost 3% of the total transaction amount.

3. Chase Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

100,000-Point Sign-up Bonus; 3x Points on Travel, Shipping, Telecommunications & Advertising

Ink Business Preferred Card Art 7 30 21

The Chase Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card is a longtime favorite of Chase small business card users. Though it has a $95 annual fee that’s not waived in the first year, you get what you pay for with:

  • A generous rewards program that favors travel and everyday business purchases.
  • An attractive points transfer feature that lets you swap your Chase Ultimate Rewards points for other companies’ loyalty currency at a 1-to-1 ratio.
  • Perhaps best of all, a massive sign-up bonus worth up to $1,250 in free travel.

When you spend at least $15,000 within 3 months of opening your account, you get 100,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points. That’s worth $1,000 when redeemed for cash, and $1,250 when redeemed for travel (thanks to Chase’s 25% bonus on all travel redemptions). If you travel a lot for business, that’s hard to resist.

This card’s regular rewards program is equally impressive. The 3x tier is unusually generous: cardholders get 3 points per $1 spent on travel, shipping purchases, telecommunications purchases (such as Internet, cable, mobile phone bills), and advertising, up to $150,000 in combined spending across those categories in each account anniversary year. All other purchases earn unlimited 1 point per $1 spent.

Redemption options include cash, travel, gift cards, Amazon.com purchases, general merchandise, and much more. And cardholders can increase the value and flexibility of their earned points by transferring them at a 1-to-1 ratio to popular travel loyalty programs such as British Airways Executive Club, Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, United MileagePlus, Marriott Rewards, and IHG Rewards Club.

  • Sign-up Bonus: Earn 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points, worth up to $1,250 on travel and $1,000 in cash, when you spend at least $15,000 within three months of account opening.
  • Key Fees: There’s a $95 annual fee, but no foreign transaction fee.
  • Introductory APR: There’s no introductory APR promotion.

17. Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card

Up to 60,000 Bonus MQMs Yearly and Generous Delta Perks

Delta Reserve Business Card Art 8 26 20

The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card is a super-premium business travel card designed for frequent Delta flyers who like to travel in style.

This card comes in this far down our list primarily because of its hefty annual fee and its limited appeal outside the frequent Delta flyer club. (For rates and fees of the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card, please visit this rates and fees page.) But if your business travel habits, lifestyle, and budget allow, it’s hard to see why you wouldn’t want to have this card in your wallet.

Big spenders make out especially well with this card. Spend $30,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year and you’ll get 15,000 bonus Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) with Status Boost, up to 4 times per year (for a total potential haul of 60,000 bonus MQMs).

And, when you spend at least $25,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year, you’ll qualify for the Medallion Qualification Dollar (MQD) waiver, making it even easier to ascend the Medallion status ranks and earn coveted Delta perks.

Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business earns 3 SkyMiles per $1 spent on eligible Delta purchases. But, given the Medallion status benefits and other generous perks, such as complimentary access to the Centurion Lounge or the Escape Lounge – The Centurion Studio Partner when you purchase a Delta flight with your SkyMiles Reserve Business card (enrollment required), the regular rewards rate is almost beside the point.

Medallion status is pretty complicated. If you’re new to the ranks of Delta frequent flyers, check out this primer on the Delta Medallion program. Terms and limitations apply: see rates & fees.

  • Welcome Offer: Earn 60,000 bonus SkyMiles, 10,000 bonus Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs), and a $100 statement credit after you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases with your new card within 3 months.
  • Key Fees: The annual fee is $550. There is no foreign transaction fee. Cash advances cost the greater of $5 or 3%. Late and returned payments cost up to $39. For rates and fees of the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card, please visit this rates and fees page.
  • Regular APR: The regular APR ranges from 15.74% to 24.74% variable, depending on prevailing rates and your personal creditworthiness. Please visit this rates and fees page for more information.
  • Other Perks: Enjoy complimentary Delta Sky Club membership and complimentary access to the Centurion Lounge or the Escape Lounge – The Centurion Studio Partner when you purchase a Delta flight with your SkyMiles Reserve Business card (enrollment required); one complimentary companion certificate (including on some first-class fares) each year; main cabin priority boarding; discounted Sky Club access for up to two traveling companions; 20% off in-flight Delta purchases; and a slew of other perks and benefits. Plus, throughout 2021, you’ll earn an additional 3,750 MQMs after making $30,000 in purchases (up to four times), in addition to the 15,000 MQMs that you’d earn with Status Boost.

The Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards credit card earns a base 1% cash back rewards on all purchases. In addition to the everyday cash-back earnings, dining purchases earn 2% cash back and you earn 3% cash back in a category of your choice.

The card allows you to select your 3% category from one of the six business categories below. Bank of America also allows you to change your category selection. Unlike most other cards that allow you to change your bonus category annually or quarterly, the Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards credit card allows you to change your bonus category every month.

      • Gas Stations—Automatic fuel dispensers and standalone service stations
      • Office Supply Stores
      • Travel—Airlines, Bus Lines, Car Rental Agencies, Cruise Lines, Hotels, Parking, Taxis, Passenger Railways, and
      • Travel Agencies
      • TV, Telecom and Wireless—Cable, Satellite and Pay Television Providers; Telephone Equipment;
      • Telecommunication Services
      • Computer Services—Computers, Computer Equipment, Software, Computer Software Stores, and Computer
      • Maintenance
      • Business Consulting Services—Accounting Services; Architectural, Engineering and Surveying Services;
      • Attorneys and Legal Services; Management Consulting Services; Tax Preparation Services

While the 1% cash-back rewards are unlimited, the total spending earning 2% or 3% cash back is limited to $50,000 per calendar year. Any spending in bonus categories beyond $50,000 per calendar year will earn 1% cash back.

Finally, if you are a Bank of America Preferred Rewards For Business customer, you will receive a bonus on all cash back earned, between 25% and 75%, depending on the amount of business deposits or investment accounts held at Bank of America or Merrill. To become a Preferred Rewards client, you must maintain an average balance of $20,000 in business deposit accounts with Bank of America or $20,000 in business deposit accounts with Merrill.

      Redeeming Rewards

Redeeming Bank of America cash rewards is simple; you can request a redemption using the Bank of America website or mobile app. Cash back can be deposited into a Bank of America checking or savings account, redeemed as a credit card statement credit, or as a check mailed to you. Rewards deposited to a checking or savings account can only be credited to an account at Bank of America; external linked checking or savings accounts cannot receive Bank of America cash-back rewards.

      Rewards Potential

Using data from various government agencies, Forbes Advisor has developed estimates for how much a family in the 70th percentile of income spends annually in various categories. We base our assumptions on a sole proprietor in this income range. The 70th percentile of wage-earning households brings in $100,172 annually and has $26,410 in expenses that can be charged to credit cards. These figures are used to estimate the potential rewards from this credit card.

To maximize the rewards on this card you will have to carefully manage your 3% cash-back categories. Among the available 3% cash-back categories, our example household will spend the most on travel at an average of $3,185 per year. If you set your 3% category as travel and charge that amount, you could expect to earn $95 in cash back annually from travel spending.

However, since the Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards credit card allows you to change your bonus category every month and, for most people, spending on things like travel or office supplies isn’t consistent month-to-month, let’s say that you opportunistically change your bonus category in months where you plan to spend heavily on travel or business technology and set it back to gas stations in other months. Assuming 75% of your travel and business spending, plus 50% of your gas can earn 3% cash-back rewards, you could increase your bonus cash back to $170 per year.

Add the 2% cash back on dining ($88 cash back per year) and 1% back on everything else ($192 cash back per year) and you could expect to earn $450 per year in cash-back rewards by using this credit card for all of your spending. Finally, if you are a Bank of America Preferred Rewards business client, you could earn up to a 75% bonus on rewards.

Best Bank of America business credit card with a low APR

Bank of America® Platinum Plus® Mastercard® Business card

$300 statement credit after you make at least $3,000 in net purchases in the first 90 days of your account opening.

      Our thoughts

The Bank of America® Platinum Plus® Mastercard® Business card doesn't outshine many other business cards on the market, but it may be a good choice for business owners who don't want to pay an annual fee and need flexibility due to ebbs in cash flow.

Because this card offers a low APR, it can help business owners who need to avoid getting hit with high interest if they're unable to pay their credit card bill in full every month. It's also a good choice for business owners who want to finance a big purchase and may not be able to pay off the entire amount during the introductory period.

For small business owners who plan to use the card to finance a costly item, that initial big purchase may offer an easy way to meet the minimum spending requirement and put $300 in your pocket through the welcome bonus.

      • Low APR of 10.24% - 21.24% Variable APR makes this card a good option for business owners who can't always pay in full each month
      • Intro APR of 0% for 7 billing cycles on purchases (then a 10.24% - 21.24% Variable APR applies)
      • Using this low-interest card to finance a big purchase could be an easy way to earn the $300 sign-up bonus
      • $0 annual fee
      • Sign-up bonus lower than those offered by many other business credit cards
      • Lack of rewards means you won't earn cash back, points or miles for business spending on this card
      • The introductory period for purchases is a little on the short side, which means you’ll need to pay off purchases quickly to avoid interest

Best Bank of America business credit card for airlines

      Alaska Airlines Visa® Business card

60,000 Bonus miles when you make at least $3,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account.

      Our thoughts

The Alaska Airlines Visa® Business card is a great option for business owners who are also Alaska Airlines frequent flyers.

The card offers unlimited 3 miles for every $1 spent on eligible Alaska Airlines purchases and unlimited 1 mile for every $1 spent on all other purchases.. It also includes several nice airline perks such as free checked bags for you and up to six companions and steeply discounted lounge passes.

One key perk of this card is its annual companion fare: a discount code that allows you to buy an annual companion fare for just $121 ($99 plus taxes and fees) when you purchase a full-fare domestic coach ticket. This companion fare and the other travel benefits can add significant value for those who fly Alaska Airlines often enough to reap the rewards.

The card does charge an annual fee, but it's modest compared with many other airline business credit cards, provided you carry only one card.

      • Offers a competitive welcome bonus with an Alaska Airlines Companion Fare offer to sweeten the deal
      • Airline perks including free checked bags and 50% off Alaska Lounge day passes
      • Miles redemption flexibility with no blackout dates on Alaska Airlines, plus option to redeem on partner airlines
      • You must be a frequent Alaska Airlines flyer to reap full benefits

Bank of America business credit card benefits

Bank of America offers a good selection of business credit cards designed to appeal to a variety of small business owners. These additional Bank of America business credit card benefits may make a Bank of America business card a good choice for you.

Many Bank of America small business credit cards include a 0% introductory APR on purchases. This is an attractive perk for small businesses that need to finance a big purchase, like a computer or office furniture, while minimizing borrowing costs. The 0% introductory period on Bank of America business cards ranges from seven to nine billing cycles, depending on the card. While Bank of America isn't offering the longest introductory periods on the market, these offers may provide plenty of time for some small businesses to pay off a purchase with zero interest.

Bank of America offers two business credit cards with no foreign transaction fees. What are foreign transaction fees? These sneaky fees appear as a percentage that gets tacked onto every purchase made outside the United States. These fees, which typically range from 1% to 3% extra, may surprise unsuspecting travelers and add unnecessary costs to a business trip.

These Bank of America business credit cards come with no foreign transaction fee:

      • Bank of America® Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard® credit card
      • Alaska Airlines Visa® Business card

The other two Bank of America business credit cards charge "international transaction fees" of 3%, which is a typical foreign transaction fee. It's smart to know which cards charge such a fee, so you can plan ahead and avoid using these cards on trips outside the country.

Bank of America credit cards also come with some handy cash flow management tools that can help business owners stay on top of their expenses.

You can set up automatic payments and transfers and download transactions into QuickBooks for easier bookkeeping. If you're a Bank of America business banking customer, you can also use QuickBooks with your Bank of America business checking, savings and money market accounts. As such, a Bank of America small business credit card may be a good option for existing customers looking for more seamless transactions and record keeping.

How to apply for a Bank of America business credit card

You can apply for a Bank of America business credit card online by choosing the card you want and clicking on the "apply now" button to fill out an application. Existing Bank of America customers have the time saving option to pre-fill an online application.

It’ll be faster and easier to apply if you start by gathering the business and personal information you'll need for your application. Here's what you need to apply for a Bank of America business credit card:

      • Information about the business: the legal name, date business was formed, tax ID, gross sales and net profit
      • Information about you: your name, date of birth, Social Security number (SSN), address and email
      • Information about owners: personal information (such as name, date of birth and SSN) for each beneficial owner and controlling manager for the company

Keep in mind that when you apply for a Bank of America small business credit card, you're making a personal guarantee to be responsible for the spending on the card — that’s true for most small business cards. That means late payments or default on the card may negatively affect your personal credit history. As such, it's a good idea to think it through and make sure you're willing to take responsibility for the charges before you apply.

All Bank of America business credit cards require excellent credit. Want to improve your odds of getting approved for a Bank of America small business credit card? Make sure to check your personal credit history and your credit score before you apply.

Excellent credit means having a score between 800 and 850 as a general rule. If your score is close but not quite there, there are some easy ways to improve your credit score before you apply. Our recommendation: Pay down your balances on other cards to decrease your credit utilization — one of the biggest factors in determining your score. You should also get in the habit of paying your bill on time, every time — that means making at least the minimum payment, though ideally you'd pay in full each month.

How to check your Bank of America business credit card application status

When you apply for a Bank of America small business credit card, it's possible that you could get an answer within 24 hours. However, the process may take as long as 10 to 12 business days, and you may get a phone call if there are additional questions about your application.

Here are two ways to get your Bank of America business credit card application status:

      • Check your Bank of America business card application status online: If you haven't received an answer yet, you can check the status of your Bank of America business credit card application on the Bank of America website.
      • Contact Bank of America to check your business card application: You can also contact Bank of America by phone or mail to request an update on the status of your small business card application.

Whether you check the status of your application or not, you will receive an answer from Bank of America by mail within 30 days.

      • Annual fee of $50 for the company and $25 per card
      • Lackluster rewards rate outside of Alaska Airlines purchases (only 1 mile per $1 spent)

      Truist Small Business

When determining your company’s financial health and profitability, there are more factors to consider than total earnings. Operating cash flow, or OCF, can be just as important—it measures the actual cash your business generates from the sale of a product or service, after deducting operating costs.

Make $100,000 in sales last month? That’s what you’ll record on your income statement as revenue. But what if you’ve only been paid for half of those sales? Last month’s sales dollars will be on the books as $50,000.

Then, some items (like depreciation of supplies) count as a net expense. So it’s possible for your business to have a net loss, but positive cash flow. Want a more accurate view of your business’s financials? Make sure you’re looking at operating cash flow.

Redemptions start at $20.

      • Sign-up Bonus: Earn $750 bonus cash back when you spend at least $7,500 within 3 months of signing up.

      • Introductory APR: There’s no introductory APR promotion.

Plus, throughout 2021, you’ll earn an additional 3,750 MQMs after making $30,000 in purchases (up to four times), in addition to the 15,000 MQMs that you’d earn with Status Boost.

Bank of America Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards Card 2021 Review

      Earning Rewards

      • TV, Telecom and Wireless—Cable, Satellite and Pay Television Providers; Telephone Equipment;
      • Telecommunication Services
      • Computer Services—Computers, Computer Equipment, Software, Computer Software Stores, and Computer
      • Maintenance
      • Business Consulting Services—Accounting Services; Architectural, Engineering and Surveying Services;

However, many also come with annual fees and require bank of america small business credit card login or excellent credit to qualify.

They request a federal employer identification number (EIN), seek evidence of incorporation, or ask for financial bank of america small business credit card login.

      Types of Business Credit Cards

Credit cards for small businesses are as varied in type as their consumer counterparts. In fact, many consumer credit cards have a business-card sibling, typically with similar features and rewards.

As with personal cards, the choices in business cards run the gamut from no-frills/no-fee options to rewards cards with complex tiered rewards based on travel, airline, issuer, or hotel loyalty programs.

Here's a quick primer on the main card types available to small business owners:

Business airline credit cards: These cards offer rewards—usually in miles—for regular card spending, along with bonus miles for purchases from their co-branded airline. Miles earned with the card are pooled with those earned by flying. The cards may also offer benefits such as early boarding, a free checked bag, or discounts on in-flight purchases.

      Pros
      • Ability to earn airline-specific miles on a favored carrier

      • Bonus miles usually offered for airline purchases and other travel-focused categories, like dining or hotels

      • Often confers elite status in the airline's frequent-flyer program

      Cons
      • Annual fees are often high

      • Limited options for redeeming or transferring miles

Business hotel credit cards: Similar to their airline counterparts, these cards offer rewards—usually in points—for regular card spending, along with bonus miles for purchases from their co-branded hotel chain. Points earned with the card are pooled with those earned through hotel or resort stays.

      Pros
      • Ability to earn bonus points at preferred hotel chain on hotel nights and other spending

      • Often confers elite status in the hotel's loyalty program

      Cons
      • Annual fees can be high

      • Limited options for redeeming or transferring points
