First Citizens Bank of South Carolina

First Citizens Bank of South Carolina is a subsidiary of First Citizens BancShares, Inc., of Raleigh, North Carolina; it is the largest bank in the United States controlled by a single family.[1] Prior to its acquisition by First Citizens BancShares Inc. of Raleigh, First Citizens Bancorporation, Inc. was a bank holding company based in Columbia, South Carolina with over $8 billion in assets. First Citizens Bank of South Carolina had branches in both South Carolina and Georgia.[2] It was the second-largest commercial bank headquartered in South Carolina.

History[edit]

In 1913, the Homestead Bank was founded in Columbia, South Carolina, and later became Commercial Bank and Trust Company of South Carolina. In 1964, the Holding brothers — Frank, Lewis and Robert, who were part owners of First Citizens Bank and Trust of North Carolina - acquired a controlling interest in Anderson Bank of Dillon, South Carolina, which had one location and sixteen employees. Over the years, Anderson Bank grew, changing its name to Citizens Bank of South Carolina in 1968. Commercial Bank and Trust merged with Citizens Bank, becoming First Citizens Bank and Trust Company of South Carolina, headquartered in Columbia.

In 1995, First Citizens acquired Summerville National Bank. In 2002, First Citizens entered Georgia by buying Citizens Bank, and added other Georgia operations with First Bank and Trust and The Bank of Toccoa in 2003. In 2005, First Citizens bought Greenville-based Summit Financial Corporation and People's Community Bank in Aiken.[3]

On July 23, 2010, First Citizens took over the operations and five branches of Kingstree, South Carolina-based Williamsburg First National Bank from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.[4]

On June 3, 2011, Charleston, South Carolina-based Atlantic Bank & Trust became the first bank to fail in that area since 1992. The three offices reopened June 6 as First Citizens branches. Atlantic Bank had $208 million in assets, $191 million in retail deposits, and three locations—Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Savannah, Georgia.[5][6]

On July 22, 2011, branches of Exchange Bank of South Carolina, another subsidiary of First Citizens Bancorporation, began converting to First Citizens branches.[7] The change involved four branches in Kingstree and Andrews.[4]

On June 10, 2014, it was announced that First Citizens Bank and Trust of Columbia, South Carolina would be acquired by First Citizens Bank of Raleigh. Following shareholder and regulatory approvals, Frank B. Holding Jr., chairman and CEO of Raleigh-based First Citizens BancShares and First Citizens Bank, is expected to lead the combined bank. [8]

As of January 1, 2015, First Citizens Bancorporation, Inc. of Columbia, South Carolina merged with and became a wholly owned subsidiary of First Citizens BancShares, Inc. of Raleigh, North Carolina. [9]

Can't get debit or credit card alerts. Since they do so many updates constantly the alerts get turned off and you can't get them turned back on. Example, your payment due reminder, if card was used at gas station or if cards were used. Now I get no alerts at all. Have called several times. The customer service rep first stated there was no problem but yet when you call you get a message that the system is having problems getting you logged in. She stated she would have someone call which she did and this customer service person actually stated it was my browser which it wasn't. I tried on my Chromebook and my their mobile app neither works. So she went in and cut the alerts on on both cards but they still are not on. I have messaged them and no fix yet. Time to change banks. Wouldn't advise anyone to put your money in their bank.

I opened an account here and switched my direct deposits and auto drafts over to it. My direct deposits would hit every Friday but would not post to my account until late Monday...so they are constantly charging me overdraft fees for transactions that hit before they decide to make my money available... ridiculous, I'm switching back to a bank that can actually handle transactions in a timely fashion. The point of direct deposit is to be able to use your money ON payday.

Absolutely terrible. My wife wanted to move to another bank and she chose First Citizens. We opened a joint checking, savings, personal checking (for my business), I got a FC credit card and rolled our HELOC all into one nice online interface. I set up auto payments for my CC, autodraft from our joint account the full balance every Monday. I bought some personal items I wanted to pay for out of my own personal account instead of the Joint, so I manually paid the full balance out of my personal funds. Their transaction process is so slow and archaic that it took my payment and then withdrew the full amount AGAIN from our joint account. Branch manager told me that "the autopay is going to process no matter what." So I had overpaid $1,364.00. It took me a MONTH to get credit back into my joint account. Absolutely inexcusable.

Then I had fraud on my CC. Its has been 2 months and I still have over $1000 of fraud charges on my account. Calling the branch is a joke. Called the branch manager repeatedly and "I'm going to stay on the phone until I get a resolution to this. I'll call you back this afternoon." 2 days later and no call. I call her and leave a VM. Wait two more days and call and leave a VM. Then I call the branch mainline and find out she's on vacation...AGAIN!!!! As soon as I get the fraud taken care of (2 months BTW) I am so done here and will IMMEDIATELY close all accounts and run for the hills to ANY bank other than FC. You've been warned!

I have a huge problem with your bank.

#1 No information about how long mobile check cashing takes until you make the transaction and then get stuck waiting 72 hours for deposit.
#2 Taking debit card too long to arrive in the mail.
#3 Took way too long for a representative to call my spouse who I added to my account.
#4 Couldn't find the information of my employer who banks with FCB so I had to open an account and pay $50.

#5 Me having to express myself this way about a bank that handles my funds.

I opened a checking account with First Citizens Bank. It lasted two days. When I was unable to login, I found out to my horror that First Citizens Bank closed my account without notifying me. Not only that, they forced me to pay $103.26 to do that. I had to pay for checks I couldn't use, and the funds were not available because the account was closed without my consent. I will never trust this bank again.

They caught someone trying to charge $7000 and sent me a text. I never used their debit card once. I happened to log in to my account and a charge to a charity in FL as well as a charge to a Flower shop were allowed. Apparently, this happens a lot to this bank. The charity refunded my money first, so First Citizens got off easy there. Their money is insured, which they don't make well known. The police told me about their money being insured. I contacted the FTC, CFPB, police, etc., because no one in fraud seemed to be empathetic or bright.

I finally got the remaining 42.90 refunded for the flower shop fraud at exactly 10 days and received a curt letter stating they the bank had followed procedure and the case was now closed. No one at the bank seems to have the same information concerning different procedures, anyway. If you want friendly, individual service, avoid this bank. I don't think they care about their customer at all. I am really shocked at this whole experience.

After 4.5 years as a customer, I received a new $15 fee for online banking. The only reason I am a First Citizens customer was for Free Checking. Customer Service said I could go to a branch and have them switch my accounts to a different online banking system with very little difference with no fee. Could they make it more difficult. AVOID THIS BANK. Worst in class technology and branches closed on Saturdays. Convenience is clearly not a consideration for them. They are so bad, I get my SBA loans through other institutions and just use their checking in case I need a local branch. If they want to nickel & dime small businesses, I'll take multiple accounts and tens of thousands of dollars to a new bank. First Citizens is NOT SMALL BUSINESS FRIENDLY.

I can't get any support over the phone and continue to be sent to a local office to receive help. Once I drive to the local office, I see a sign posted on the door stating the office is closed due to COVID. I then go back through the drive-thru to talk with someone who gives me the name of the branch GM who can't seem to figure out how to help me either. He is very nice and continues to say he is "pushing buttons" and the back office will fix the issue one of these days. Well, the issue doesn't get fixed so I go on-line and am able to create a Bank of America account and all my issues are addressed and solved within 12 days.

I now want to cancel my First Citizens account and am being told I have to be back to the local office to close my account. This is the local office that is CLOSED and is the reason I am canceling the account in the first place. In the meantime, First Citizen continues to charge fees because I have transferred the majority of the money out of the account. HELP!!!!

First Citizens Bank purchased the bank that I did business with over a year ago. Since that time, they’ve continued to send monthly statements @ $5 each. I call each month asking them to stop. I’ve tried to close the account-they said my signature didn’t match. My balance has gone to zero, and they had the nerve to charge an OVERDRAFT FEE!!! Once they charged the overdraft fee, they closed my account! (Which is fine because I’ve wanted to close it anyway.) But I shouldn’t have to pay $35 for this. THEY dwindled my account down to $0 and have the nerve to charge me!! Customer service is unhelpful. They talk you in circles and in the end, rob you of your money through a $5 monthly statement fee that they make impossible to cancel.

I have been a First Citizens Bank customer for 9 years. I have a savings, a checking and credit card with them. I needed to open an Estate Account for an inheritance. I checked with them to make sure I had all the proper documents. Went to the bank when I received the check and presented my documents. Their legal department balked because the Letter of Authority from the court was not original. Strange because I had the check in hand. Nothing illegal happening here. I went to First Bank of SC with the same documents that same day and opened the Estate Account there in 20 minutes. This is the 2nd time I have been disappointed by FCB's legal department. The other time was for a simple Notarized Signature that they would not do because it was a property sale. Went to the UPS Store and got it. I don't feel like they really want to assist their customers. Apparently, they don't need my business.

Banking & Finance

Despite economic uncertainties brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, First Citizens Bank’s sixth annual Small Business Forecast finds that 66% of the small business owners polled by the bank remain optimistic or very optimistic about the country’s long-term economic outlook.

Before the pandemic hit the U.S., 68% of all survey respondents from South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Wisconsin and Florida said they had a positive outlook on the country’s economic future.

“This year has been challenging and unpredictable for the world, but our report shows that small business owners have not let the challenges of today impact their positive perception about our economic outlook,” Doug Sprecher, director of sales strategy at First Citizens Bank, said in a news release. “The small business community shoulders a significant amount of responsibility and has continued to showcase its resiliency year after year. Our goal is to leverage this data to better equip business owners with the insights and counsel needed to plan for and achieve greater business performance in 2021 and beyond.”

Respondents from South Carolina may even have more to be optimistic about with 84% claiming that the Palmetto State is a great place to launch a business — the highest percentage out of any states polled. California was reportedly the least startup friendly with 61% feeling optimistic about their in-state support, followed by Wisconsin (66%), North Carolina (72%) and Florida (80%), according to the release.

Small business owners in California also witnessed the steepest dip in near-term economic confidence with a 24% decrease since pre-COVID-19 results, while the optimism of South Carolina and Wisconsin small businesses stayed fairly stable at a respective 65% and 64% positive response. About 57% of survey respondents from all states had a positive outlook on the country’s near-term economic conditions, according to the release.

Business owners between the ages of 18 and 34 who manage more than 51 employees and own an enterprise under 10 years old are the most confident demographic for continued business growth. Of those planning to grow and expand their business in the next 6-12 months, 44% indicated they will do so by hiring more employees and 26% noted investments in technology, according to the release.

Here’s Your First Citizens Bank Routing Number

Banking / Banks

First Citizens Bank routing number

First Citizens Bank has been a part of the U.S. banking system for the last 120 years. The Raleigh, North Carolina-based bank now operates more than 500 branches across dozens of states and uses different routing numbers, depending on where an account was opened.

What Is First Citizen’s Routing Number?

First Citizens’s routing number for all wire transfers is 053100300.

However, the bank has different routing numbers depending on where you opened your account and what action you’re trying to complete. The following routing numbers correspond to electronic payments such as direct deposits and ACH payments.

First Citizens Bank Routing Number

West Virginia051503174
Wisconsin275071288

It’s important to know which routing number to use to ensure the funds you’re sending or receiving go to the correct account.

What Is a Routing Number?

Banks use routing numbers to identify each other during monetary transfers, or what the American Bankers Association called “negotiable instruments.” These numbers are comprised of nine digits and contain unique chunks of information. For example, a routing number identifies different regional branches and the individual bank they’re a part of, which is why you see different branches using the same routing number. However, two different banks cannot share the same routing number.

Keep Reading: Routing Numbers: What They Are and How To Find Them

Banks Can Have Multiple Routing Numbers

Yes, as First Citizen shows, banks can have multiple routing numbers. Whether a bank uses different routing numbers for different states usually depends on both its size and whether it has a history of mergers and acquisitions. It also depends on which transaction the number is used for. For example, First Citizens uses a different routing number for wire transfers than it does for direct deposits. Other banks that use multiple routing numbers include Wells Fargo and Citibank.

How Do You Find a Routing Number on a Check?

The routing number on a check can be found on the bottom-left corner of the document, next to your account number.

Different Routing Numbers for International Wire Transfers

SWIFT codes are the security codes banks use for international transfers. Although First Citizens uses different routing numbers for different states, all of its branches and accounts use the same SWIFT code: FCBTUS33

Tips to Change Your Disney Plus Account Email and Password

The VOD service contains all 30 seasons of The Simpsons, as well as movies and shows from Disney's other brands, such as Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar. Unfortunately, according to ZDNet, thousands of accounts have been hacked and the information sold on hacking sites. Keylogger malware, code-breaking software attacks, and email phishing scams appear to have been used to steal account credentials. Disney needs to create a multi-factor authentication mechanism to avoid situations like this. However, until that extra layer of security is available, the business advises users to take the following steps. Use different passwords for your streaming service account. This is self-evident. The only way to tell whether your account has been hacked is if you can no longer access it. However, if you suspect it has been hacked or just want to be safe, change your email and password. Change your Disney+ password or email address To get started, open the Disney+ app and tap the Profile button, then Account. C You can then change your password or email address in the Account Details section. It's worth noting that if you've been hacked, you'll need to change both. You can update your email and/or password by logging into your Disney+ account online. If you are unable to access your account, please contact Disney Plus online or call (888) 905-7888 for assistance. Check the email address you provided when you signed up, the date you signed up, and the payment method you used. First and foremost, there is security. With occurrences like this, now is a good moment to remind everyone about the importance of online data security. Always use secure passwords and don't repeat them across many sites. Use a secure password manager like LastPass or 1Password to make this easy. Also, educate yourself and others about the dangers of email phishing schemes. Also, on any site or service that offers it, always utilize two-factor authentication (2FA). Bugs are still being worked out. It's very early in the service's development, so there are still some problems to iron out. Specifically, when it comes to account security. Other issues exist in addition to the installation of 2FA. The Parental Controls function, for example, does not necessitate account-specific security. With a single tap, a child can switch to their parent's account. However, as the program matures and the firm hears more user feedback, Disney Plus will certainly improve.Get Disney+ now. The service supports Dolby Vision and HDR 10 at resolutions up to 4K Ultra HD. It also supports Dolby Surround Sound when it's available. Atmospheric sound. It costs $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. For $13.99/month, you can get the Disney Plus package, which includes Hulu (With Ads) and ESPN+. You can also get a $19.99/month bundle that includes Disney Plus, Hulu (No Ads), and ESPN+. Check out our early review of Disney Plus to learn more about what's included in the program and what to expect. Early Disney Plus Review: The Disney Vault and More Over ten million people have already signed up for Disney Plus, the long-awaited subscription video-on-demand streaming service that was first tested in the Netherlands and is now available in the United States. After a few days of enjoying it, I've arrived at the following not-so-surprising conclusion: Netflix and other streaming services may soon have a serious rodent problem, albeit this hasn't yet occurred. The Disney Vault is very amazing. We've known for decades that Disney enjoys putting content, particularly its successful family films, into the so-called Disney vault. Disney Plus is that lockbox, which you can now access from numerous devices at any time. If you have a family with young children, Disney Plus is a no-brainer because it has everything. Content from Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Pixar is accessible to view and download for $6.99 per month (or $12.99 per month if Hulu and ESPN+ are included). Adults and older children can choose from a variety of possibilities. National Geographic, as well as Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios, have contributed content. From the Star Wars films to The Simpsons and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the list goes on and on. Although some of the newer content is missing at launch, the majority of it is available. Important New Content The video content described above, however, will remain steady for the foreseeable future, with the exception of the rare new film release. Because of this, Disney Plus's other content will influence how popular the service becomes in the long run. Disney Plus wants to make an impact with original scripted and unscripted entertainment in addition to its core content. This includes “The Mandalorian,” an expensive Star Wars-based series that has already received positive reviews, a live-action adaptation of The Lady and the Tramp, and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” an upcoming Marvel picture. Series based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney Plus will also host an expanding amount of additional Disney-owned family-oriented material, such as films from 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, and Touchstone Pictures, as well as Hollywood Pictures and Touchstone Pictures. The site will also feature non-Disney material, such as CBS Television Studios' "The Diary of a Female President." It's worth noting that Disney's purchase of Fox implies that 30 seasons of "The Simpsons" are also available. Disney Plus isn't only about Dumbo and the princesses.

Bonus Offer

Offer is valid on new accounts only. To qualify, company must spend $3,000 within the first three months of account opening to receive the bonus. 10,000 bonus points will be credited within 60 days of qualification under the description: Commercial Spend Bonus.

Earning Points

Base Rewards Tier: Earns (i) one (1) point for each dollar you spend for net retail purchases (gross retail purchases less any returns or credits), (ii) three (3) points for each dollar you spend for net retail purchases in the follow rewards category: gas stations (2 additional points on top of the 1 point per dollar earned on net retail purchases), (iii) two (2) points for each dollar you spend for net retail purchases in the following rewards categories: restaurants and travel (airlines, auto rental, and lodging) (1 additional point on top of the 1 point per dollar earned on net retail purchases).

Rewards Categories: Merchants who accept Visa credit cards are assigned a merchant code, which is determined by the merchant or its processor in accordance with Visa procedures based on the kinds of products and services they primarily sell. We group similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of making reward offers to you. We make every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in our rewards categories. However, even though a merchant or some of the items that it sells may appear to fit within a rewards category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, purchases with that merchant won't qualify for rewards offers on purchases in that category.

Businesses may earn up to 10,000 points per calendar month, excluding bonus points. Points earned are available for redemption for a 3 year term. Points expiring during the year will be cleared from the Program Account on the last day of the month in which they expire.

Rewards Redemption

Businesses in the Base Rewards Tier may redeem points for (i) cash back to a First Citizens checking or savings account or credit card statement credits, (ii) credit towards a First Citizens personal loan or mortgage principal, (iii) Pay Me Back statement credits, (iv) travel rewards, including airline tickets, hotel, car rentals, cruises and tours, (v) retail gift cards and certificates and (vi) merchandise and (vii) donations.

These Terms are only a summary. Other restrictions and requirements apply. The full First Citizens Rewards® Program Rules will be provided upon enrollment and are accessible via the program website at FirstCitizensRewards.com at log in.

Program Rules are subject to change or cancellation without notice.
