Homes with Hope is a Westport-based organization dedicated to ending homelessness in Fairfield County. Incorporated on December 5, 1983, Homes with Hope (formerly the Interfaith Housing Association) opened in 1984 as a homeless shelter for single men, occupying a retired firehouse owned by the Town of Westport. Local religious organizations worked together to create the Interfaith Housing Association in response to an increased number of homeless individuals, primarily men, who were turning to them for aid.

Need help feeding a four legged family member?

Every pet owner knows how amazing animals are; they become apart of our lives and sometimes help us through difficult times. We know everyone needs a little help once and a while, here are some truly awesome charities who remembered the other members of the family who might need a meal.

Animal Outreach Society Pet Food Pantry – Animal Outreach Society is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), completely unpaid volunteer run organization.  The mission of Animal Outreach Society is to provide resources that improve the lives of animals through programs tailored to the needs of pet owners experiencing financial hardship.

Location: Bridgeport, CT

Bear’s Pet Food Pantry was started with the idea that no one should have to choose between feeding their pets and feeding themselves. By providing pet food assistance to people who are experiencing financial hardship, we will be able to find alternatives to abandoning or surrendering pets to local shelters due to lack of food and be able to keep pets and their families who love them, together.

We provide approximately 1 month of food per animal with a maximum of 40 lbs. Assistance will be provided up to a maximum of 5 animals per household and no animals can be added to the household at anytime.

Location: Old Saybrook, CT

Connecticut Humane Society’s Pet Food Pantry: provides quality pet food at no cost for people in financial difficulty who are struggling to afford their pets. Doing so keeps the pet in the home with the family who already knows and loves them best, and out of a shelter. The pantry currently provides pet food for several hundred dogs and cats each month, with a community need that only continues to grow.

Locations: Newington – Waterford – Westport

In August and September, back-to-school supplies are donated for local school children through Colchester Social Services. We have also collected baby gifts for Madonna Place in Norwich.

In October, we have contributed to the UCC Neighbors in Need offering and sometimes participated in the CROP Hunger Walk, raising funds to combat hunger.

In November, we help with a Spaghetti Supper to benefit Restavek Orphanage in Haiti.  And we also organize a food drive to benefit the Colchester Food Bank.

In December, we have a Giving Tree in our sanctuary to collect items (socks, mittens, hats, etc.) to benefit those in need.  We donate our Christmas Eve offering to the Retired Ministers' Funds of the American Baptist Churches and the United Church of Christ. And we support the Colchester Social Services program Santa Anonymous by providing requested Christmas gifts to children in our community.

In February, we observe Souper Bowl Sunday and collect canned goods and soup to benefit the Colchester Food Bank.

In March and April (during Lent), we often donate hygiene items for the Prison Fellowship Ministry to support both men and women.

We give thanks for the work of My Brother's Keeper who gather weekly throughout the program year to make sleeping bags for the homeless population of Eastern Connecticut and beyond.

Finally, we support international mission organizations and initiatives and we do our best to respond to natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, famines, floods, etc.  As Jesus reminds us, "Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." (Matthew 25:40)

“Beacon of love”

Colchester is Kind has been a beacon of love for everyone, no matter what. They have demonstrated love, kindness, and compassion for all members of the community. It allows people to both give and receive. I am grateful to have been able to do both!

“Cool to be kind”

It has created a culture in our community where it is “cool to be kind.” They have personally affected our family as they supported us when our son was fighting cancer when members wrote cards for him and made signs. After our son passed away, they created kindness cards to pass out at his funeral. They also organized acts of kindness in our son’s memory.

The coming together of our community in all different circumstances has been truly amazing to witness and be a part of! I feel so blessed to be raising my family in this wonderful town!

“People feel welcome”

I love the encouraging messages being spread through Facebook, on Starbucks cups, and sidewalk art. I’ve also been loving the mental health posts! Makes people feel welcome and accepted into this town.

“Opportunities to help”

The more opportunities one sees, the kinder a person is. That has been seen around town from signs, to giveaways, to gifts and support, to meal trains and supportive cards, and let’s not forget buying coffee for the car in the drive through behind you. Much of this would never have started unless Colchester Is Kind initiated it and inspired so MANY others in works of kindness in Colchester and beyond.

Covid-19 and Worship Updates

updated: June 26, 2021

Spiritual, Worship, and Pastoral Care Resources

St. Peter’s Weekly Services

Update: Starting July 4th – We will be moving to one service at 9 AM outside under the maple tree at the end of the parking lot for the summer (July and August).

We will be broadcasting live services on Our Facebook Page at 9 AM ET.  We will also be uploading the video afterwards to our YouTube channel. If you have a smart television and watch services like Netflix or Hulu you also have access to YouTube channel in the same place.  Below is the link to these recorded complete weekly services with Father Ron during this time.

If you want to follow along in the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), you may view the BCP Online, or download the BCP (PDF). For the Hymnals being sung, you may View the Hymnal Online to sing or follow along.

Church Resources

Episcopal Church Foundation: Resources from across the wider church and beyond. Dozens of links to many sources and much information.

Worship Links

Weekly Live-streaming Services:  The National Cathedral in Washington conducts weekly Sunday worship live.  They also upload other weekly worship services.

Prayer Support

We at St. Peter’s have an active, caring Prayer Group who are called to raise up in prayer people who are suffering in body or mind, or are distressed for any reason.

Names can be submitted to the office by clicking HERE, by phone (860-228-3244), by email:
[email protected]
or by post (St. Peter’s, P.O. Box 513, Hebron CT 06248). The office may be closed due to Covid-19 (Corona) but the messages are forwarded and received remotely. The names of the people submitted for our prayers will remain confidential.

Pastoral Support

We will be identifying those in our parish in special need of ongoing phone support with our pastoral care team and  Father Ron. If you need to reach Father Ron via phone or text, his cell phone is: 860-280-8526

Outreach Opportunities

Our response can best be measured by what we do to alleviate the human suffering and need as a result of this crisis. While several folks have given ideas, we thought we’d begin with helping several community organizations providing direct services in the surrounding towns. Below are some specific needs we’ve identified where you can help. Importantly, as needs change or other groups step forward we will update this list.

St. Peter’s has resumed monthly collection of canned and dry food supplies for various food banks.  Each month we identify a local food bank and collect food on their behalf.  A basket for food drop off is in the entrance to the church and another in the parish hall.  During this time of continued need we encourage you all to be generous.  Thank you.

1. HIHS Hebron: Continues to request grocery gift cards vs. food items. They are attempting to increase signage to indicate their location. April has seen an increase of 80-100 new people needing food support. Hours are 9 am to 7 pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. They are providing 120 weekend food/snack bags for students. All services are open to ALL towns.

2.  Colchester Food Bank: Like Hebron, Colchester is not looking for food collections, rather they are encouraging gift cards for food to help their clients. You can send them to Colchester Food Bank, Town Hall, 127 Norwich Avenue, Colchester, CT 06415.

3. Andover Food Bank: Food pantry is open per calendar schedule and they are accepting grocery gift cards.

4. Marlborough Food Bank: Is still accepting food items, for which Fr. Ron has placed a gray box in our parking lot.

5. Columbia Food Bank: Food pantry is supporting 45-60 seniors, who are struggling with health issues prohibiting canned goods that contain salt. Food is being delivered to them, at this point, and the request is for no salt canned goods, and milk, bread, eggs that can be left with Bernadette Derring at Beckish Senior Center on Tuesdays from 8-3. All calls are forwarded to her cell so you can reach her by calling Beckish at 860-228-0759 Grocery gift cards also welcome.

6. No Freeze Shelter: We’ve supported the shelter with meals but they are suspended. They have asked for donations of hand sanitize, anti-bacterial soap, bleach, paper towels, toilet paper or cleaning products. You can bring them to church and placing them in the No Freeze shelter bin outside the parish hall door.
