The best ways to contact Amazon for help when you have a problem with your account

  • If you need to track down a lost order or troubleshoot an Amazon device, its customer service is 24/7.
  • For basic issues, Amazon's customer service page is intuitive with helpful FAQs and guidance.
  • For complicated problems, contact customer service via live chat, phone call, email, even social media.

Considering we order everything from household essentials to clothes to groceries on Amazon, not to mention rely on devices like Amazon Echo, Alexa, Kindles, and Fire tablets, there's no doubt you'll need to contact the online retailer at some point to initiate a return, make changes to an order, or troubleshoot one of the aforementioned essentials. The problem: Customer service for online retailers is notoriously frustrating.

Thankfully for us, Amazon actually makes answering most questions quite easy. And if you're hitting snafus, we've tracked down all the info for how to troubleshoot the worst of issues, below.

How can I get help from Amazon?

Amazon
Amazon

The easiest way to get help with an Amazon order or account is to its Customer Service page. Amazon has a very user-friendly interface that allows for the majority of questions to be answered with just a few clicks (see image above). If you need help tracking down an order that hasn't arrived, starting a refund, reloading a gift card, managing details on your account, or troubleshooting devices, the Amazon Help site has endless pages dedicated to intuitive troubleshooting.

How do I reach a live person at Amazon?

Like most major retailers now, when you opt to use Amazon's live chat or phone number with their customer service, you'll first speak with a bot who will try and take care of simple issues. If the issue is beyond its abilities, you'll be connected with a real person.

How to call Amazon customer service

Amazon's customer service phone number is 1-888-280-4331, and that number is live 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

But calling Amazon often comes with a wait, and it also requires you to have on hand a mobile phone that is paired with your Amazon account, as the customer service representative will send you a verification code via text message before you can start asking your questions or sharing an issue.

If calling seems like a hassle, however — even with the potential ease of voice-commanding a call on an Amazon Echo — there are other ways to contact the company.

How to contact Amazon via chat

Amazon
Rachael Schultz/Insider

Often an online chat with an Amazon customer service rep is an easier way to get in contact with Amazon and to resolve an issue. Here's how to do it.

1. While logged in and on the main page, scroll to the bottom of the page and, under the column labeled "Let Us Help You," click on "Help" (last option).

2. On the next page, under the heading "Browse Help Topics," hover over (or tap if on mobile) "Need More Help?"

3. Click "Contact Us" from the menu that appears to the right.

4. The next page should look like the image above and have a large "Start chatting now" button.

How to email Amazon customer service

If you prefer to contact Amazon by email, there are two addresses to which you can send mail. But I've found that the response time is often 48 hours or even a bit more. That said, an email creates a record of your correspondence and thus might be the best method for some issues.

For issues with your account, you should email [email protected]

How to contact Amazon via social media

If your preferred method of communication is social media, you can comment, Tweet, or hashtag one of their several accounts. This is not the most efficient way to reach them, but it can allow you to air a problem, potentially drawing a more thorough addressing of the issue from the company.

Amazon's customer service Twitter account is @amazonhelp. Their Facebook page is www.facebook.com/Amazon. On Instagram, they're — you guessed it — @amazon.

But really, if you want answers fast, just pick up the phone and give Amazon a call. There are reps ready to help you out. (I even made up a question and called them myself just now to make sure I could get through with ease.)

Amazon Prime Video finally launches user profiles to all customers worldwide

Amazon’s Prime Video is finally adding a feature that’s long since become a standard for streaming video services: user profiles. With profiles, Prime Video users will have access to their own Watchlist, personalized recommendations, and they’ll be able to track their own viewing progress, similar to rival services, like Netflix.

Customers can create up to six profiles for their household members, including one primary profile associated with the Amazon account, plus five additional profiles, which can be a mix of adult and kids’ profiles.

The new profiles will be first available in the Prime Video app on iOS, Android, Fire tablet (Gen 10 and higher), and the Fire TV Prime Video app, in addition to the Prime Video apps built for other living room devices.

Prime Video profiles were spotted earlier this year by NDTV, which led to some erroneous reporting that the feature had officially launched to all. In actuality, Amazon first rolled out profiles to its customers in India and Africa. It’s now making it accessible to all worldwide, including the U.S.

For any profile set as a “Kids” profile, the service will only include age-appropriate content aimed at those 12-years-old or younger. The search results and search suggestions will also be filtered to only show Kids titles. Children with a Kids profile won’t be able to make purchases, either.

Meanwhile, any adult profile will be able to play all the entitled Prime Video content form the primary account, including content that has been purchased or rented, Prime Video titles, Prime Video Channels and Live content.

However, if the adult wants to set up parental controls on their account so this content is not accessible on a shared device, like the living room TV, they can do so. In this case, viewing restrictions will be enabled but parents can enter a PIN code to access the content, as they can now.

Parents can also continue to block children from making purchases from an adult profile by enabling Purchase Restrictions under Prime Video Settings, which will also require a PIN to complete the transaction.

The one exception to how child profiles work is on mobile devices. The Prime Video app will allow a child profile to access the adult profile’s downloads on mobile — a decision Amazon made because it didn’t want to restrict access to downloads if the device was taken offline, making it impossible to profile switch.

In addition, for customers that have set up wallet-sharing in their Amazon Household settings, Prime Video will automatically create profiles for those users. This can be disabled from the Manage your Profiles page, but once profile sharing is off, it can’t be reenabled.

The lack of user profiles have been, to date, one of the bigger oversights with Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service, first launched in 2011, and a much-requested feature for years. Today, streaming services don’t just compete on their content library but on how well they can surface the titles from that library by way of personalized recommendations and other tools that keep a user’s favorites and interests easily accessible. But Prime Video ignored this need, forcing all members of a household to share a single account. That choice told customers that even Amazon itself didn’t consider Prime Video a true competitor to other top services, like Netflix, Hulu and Disney+.

It’s finally correcting this matter, but only as the streaming market crowds with new offerings, like recently launched HBO Max and NBCU’s forthcoming Peacock, for example.

Amazon cautions that user profiles are being launched today, but not everyone will see them immediately. The feature is rolling out in phases, so you may see them arrive in a few days’ time, if not today.

‘The Wheel Of Time’ Makes Strong Debut As Amazon Prime Video Doubles Down On Genre With ‘Mass Effect’ Adaptation & Prepares To Usher In ‘LOTR’

EXCLUSIVE:AmazonPrime Video’s series adaptation of Robert Jordan’s best-selling The Wheel Of Time fantasy novels has come out of the gate strong.

“We can firmly say that Wheel of Time was the most watched series premiere of the year and one of the Top 5 series launches of all time for Prime Video,” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke told Deadline about the debut, acknowledging that the company — like most streamers  — “try to figure out how transparent we are going to be in the future” with ratings.

Prime Video is among the SVOD platforms that do not disclose viewership data but Salke revealed that “there were tens and tens of millions of streams” for The Wheel Of Time in the first three days of its release, with the US, India, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany as the top countries.

In an encouraging sign for The Wheel Of Time‘s longevity, the series’ first three episode made available at launch also logged some of the highest completion rates on the service ever, Salke added. Additionally, according to third party TV-I, The Wheel of Time was the #1 series on social across all releases last weekend and is the biggest Amazon Original series on social this year.

With its solid Nov. 19 debut, The Wheel of Time, starring Rosamund Pike, is living up to its strong pre-launch tracking. Parrot Analytics earlier this month released data showing The Wheel Of Time outpacing other recent new fantasy series, including Netflix’s hit The Witcher, in global pre-release demand, projecting that The Wheel of Time could have Prime Video’s biggest opening since the Season 2 premieres of The Boys in October 2020 and Indian original Mirzapur in November 2020. (Both The Wheel of Time and The Boys come from Sony Amazon prime video phone number Television, which co-produces them with Amazon Studios.)

Salke would not disclose further viewership information about The Wheel Of Time premiere but said that “it’s definitely trending to exceed our expectations which were high.”

Between Us bank secured credit card pre qualify comic book adaptation The Boys’ critical and commercial success, The Wheel Of Time‘s promising debut and the anticipated launch of The Lord of Rings, genre has emerged as a key programming area for the streamer and a continuing development focus.

One of the company’s newest hopefuls in the arena is Mass Effect. Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a series based on the best-selling sci-fi video game franchise from Electronic Arts.

“You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genre of all kinds, we have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more,” Salke said.

The Wheel Of Time‘s successful launch, for which Salke also gave credit to Amazon Studios’ marketing and publicity teams, comes after a challenging year for Prime Video — and for virtually any linear and streaming networks whose content pipelines were affected by the coronavirus pandemic. With production on many of its series delayed, including Emmy-winning comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Amazon relied on movie acquisitions to keep circulation on the service and used the opportunity to cultivate new audiences with a mix of original series and movies.

“As we looked at the challenges that Covid presented with our slate, it was really important that we were creating big cultural moments globally around content,” Salke said. “We went out at the end of 2020 with Borat, and through 2021 increasing that momentum with our slate of originals. I’m so happy that we could get a slate of material underway with Coming to America, Without Remorse, Sylvie’s Love, One Night In Miami, Them: Covenant and Underground Railroad which we were able to schedule strategically within Covid to drive a new audience to Prime Video. We made significant improvements in making Black customers all over the world feel like Prime Video was a home for them which we are exceptionally proud of.”

While movies like these as well as The Tomorrow War and Cinderella “kept our customers very much vacation rentals currituck nc on the service,” “I think we’ve all been looking forward to Wheel Of Time being the next big tentpole that we could get up on the service while we are still in this pandemic,” Salke said. “It is a bit of the amazon prime video phone number opening to the robust content slate that was delayed for so many different reasons all coming together in 2022 and 23.”

That includes the sprawling TheLord of the Rings, slated to premiere on Sept. 2, 2022. Amazon recently announced that production on Season 2 of the J.R.R. Tolkien series adaptation will be moving to the UK from New Zealand where Season 1 was filmed.

Salke had no updates on locations and production start date for Season 2 but said this about LOTR:

“All systems are go on that show, it looks absolutely incredible and we can’t wait to launch it to the world. We know our global audience is hungry for elevated fantasy and shows based on beloved IP; we see that with Wheel of Time, and Lord of the Rings will be the centerpiece of our year.”

A lot has been written about comments attributed to Amazon’s Jeff Bezos in fall 2017 about a Prime Video programming shift to big, tentpole series and find the new Game Of Thrones. It resulted in a slew of high-profile genre projects being put in development by the streamer around that time, including The Lord Of the Rings, The Boys and The Wheel of Time.

Salke remembered meeting with The Wheel Of Time creator Rafe Judkins and the Sony TV executives after she joined Amazon Studios in early 2018.

“It was so amazing to hear Rafe’s personal connection to it,” Salke recalled. “His mother, during a coming-of-age, challenging time for him, bonded with him over this book. It was this really important piece of storytelling that really informed him and his relationships with his family in a lot of ways. Clearly I knew – which we always look for — how passionate was he about this material, how well did he know it, and how much affection and love did he have for it. We greenlit [the series] off that meeting, and I wasn’t worried about it; I felt we were in really great hands with him on this beloved, huge property.”

While Salke acknowledges that, “as always with a beloved IP, you could get some criticism about not staying exactly true to people’s vision of what the series should look like as it comes to life, we are in touch with the core fans of the novels and we know the majority of them are really excited and happy,” she said.

The Wheel of Time was renewed for a second season in May, months ahead of its series premiere. Amazon prime video phone number on Season 2 began in Prague, Czech Republic in July, and the series is about halfway through principal photography on the new season.

“You should expect more of the high quality addictive storytelling that stays true to the original IP but also brings new original ideas and storylines,” Salke said about Season 2.

It is too early to discuss a potential early Season 3 renewal but it is a amazon prime video phone number possibility.

“Let’s get a little time under our feet but I have a good feeling the show will go on for years and years,” Salke said.

Based on Jordan’s novels, The Wheel of Time was adapted for television by executive producer/showrunner Judkins. Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage of iwot productions, Mike Weber and Ted Field of Radar Pictures, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe, and Uta Briesewitz will also serve as executive producers, with Briesewitz set to direct the first two episodes. Pike serves as producer and Harriet McDougal and Brandon Sanderson as consulting producers. The Wheel of Time is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV.

Created by Casey Hudson, Drew Karpyshyn and Preston Watamaniuk, Mass Effect is a sci-fi action video game franchise developed by BioWare and Electronic Arts. The series launched in 2007 with the first Mass Effect game, which follows Systems Alliance Navy vet Commander Shepard who must fight against an ancient machine race that looks to invade the Milky Way. The franchise also includes the second and third installments of the Mass Effect trilogy and various spin-offs including mobile games and Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Exclusive: Amazon's is there a home remedy for dog ear infection numbers on Prime Video, revealed

(Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc’s top television shows drew more than 5 million people worldwide to its Prime shopping club by early 2017, according to company documents, revealing for the first time how the retailer’s bet on original video is paying off.

The documents also show that Amazon’s U.S. audience for all video programming on Prime, including films and TV shows it licenses from other companies, was about 26 million customers. Amazon has never released figures for its total audience.

The internal documents compare metrics that have never been reported for 19 shows exclusive to Amazon: their cost, their viewership and the number of people they helped lure to Prime. Known as Prime Originals, the shows account for as much as a quarter of what analysts estimate to be total Prime sign-ups from late 2014 to early 2017, the period covered by the documents.

Core to Amazon’s strategy is the use of video to convert viewers into shoppers. Fans access Amazon’s lineup by joining Prime, a club that includes two-day package delivery and other perks, for an annual fee.

The company declined to comment on the documents seen by Reuters. But Chief Executive Jeff Bezos has been upfront about the company’s use of entertainment to drive merchandise sales. The world’s biggest online retailer launched Amazon Studios in 2010 to develop original programs that have since grabbed awards and Hollywood buzz.

“When we win a Golden Globe, it helps us sell more shoes,” Bezos said at coldwell banker hartford ct 2016 technology conference near Los Angeles. He said film and TV customers renew their subscriptions “at higher rates, and they convert from free trials at higher rates” than members who do not stream videos on Prime.

Video has grown to be one of Amazon’s biggest expenditures at $5 billion per year for original and licensed content, two people familiar with the matter said. The company has never disclosed how many subscribers it won as a result, making it hard for investors to evaluate its programming decisions.

The internal documents show what Amazon considers to be the financial logic of its strategy, and why the company is now making more commercial projects in addition to high-brow shows aimed at winning awards, the people said.

For example, the first season of the popular drama “The Man in the High Castle,” an alternate history depicting Germany as the victor of World War Two, had 8 million U.S. viewers as of early 2017, according to the documents. The program cost $72 million in production and marketing and attracted 1.15 million new subscribers worldwide based on Amazon’s accounting, the documents showed.

Amazon calculated that the show drew new Prime members at an average cost of $63 per subscriber.

That is far less than the $99 that subscribers pay in the United States for Prime; the company charges similar fees abroad. Prime members also buy more goods from Amazon than non-members, Bezos has said, further boosting profit.

AMAZON’S SECRET MATH

Precisely how Amazon determines a customer’s motivation for joining its Prime club is not clear from the documents viewed by Reuters.

(See an interactive version of the above graphic)

But a person familiar with its strategy said the company credits a specific show for luring someone to start or extend a Prime subscription if that program is the first one a customer streams after signing up. That metric, referenced throughout the documents, is known as a “first stream.”

The company then calculates how expensive the viewer was to acquire by dividing the show’s costs by the number of first streams it had. The lower that figure, the better.

The internal documents do not show how long subscribers stayed with Prime, nor do they indicate how much shopping they do on Amazon. The company reviews other metrics for its programs as well. Consequently, the documents do not provide enough information to determine the overall profitability of Amazon’s Hollywood endeavor.

Still, the numbers indicate that broad-interest shows can lure Prime members cheaply by Amazon’s calculations. One big winner was the motoring series “The Grand Tour,” which stars the former presenters of BBC’s “Top Gear.” The show had more than 1.5 million first streams from Prime members worldwide, at a cost of $49 per subscriber suntrust locations in columbus ga its first season.

The documents seen by Reuters reflect Prime subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria and Japan, where Amazon’s programs were available before Prime Video rolled out globally in December 2016.

Analysts estimate that 75 million or more customers have Prime subscriptions worldwide, including about half of all households in the United States.

BIGGER BETS

About 26 million U.S. Prime members watched television and movies on Amazon as of early 2017. Reuters calculated this number from the documents, which showed how many viewers a TV series had as a percentage of total Prime Video customers.

Rival Netflix Inc had twice that many U.S. subscribers in the first quarter of last year. It does not disclose how many were active viewers.

For years, Amazon Studios aimed to win credibility in Hollywood with sophisticated shows beloved by critics. Its marquee series “Transparent,” about a transgender father and his family, won eight Primetime Emmy Awards and created the buzz Amazon wanted to attract top producers and actors.

Yet “Transparent” lagged Amazon’s top shows in viewership. Its first season drew a U.S. audience half as large as that of “The Man in the High Castle,” and it fell to 1.3 million viewers for its third season, according to the documents.

Similarly, “Good Girls Revolt,” a critically-acclaimed show about gender inequality in a New York newsroom, had total U.S. viewership of 1.6 million but cost $81 million, with only 52,000 first streams worldwide by Prime members.

The program’s cost per new customer was about $1560, according to the documents. Amazon canceled it after one season.

Amazon is now working on more commercial dramas and spin-offs with appeal outside the United States, where Prime membership has far more room to grow, people familiar with the matter said.

The effort to broaden Amazon’s amazon prime video phone number, long in the works, will be in the hands of Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment’s president whom Amazon hired last month as its studio chief. Amazon’s Bezos has wanted a drama to rival HBO’s global hit “Game of Thrones,” according to the people.

In November, Amazon announced it will make a prequel to the fantasy hit “The Lord of the Rings.” The company had offered $250 million for the rights alone; production and marketing could raise costs to $500 million or more for two seasons, one of the people said.

At half a billion dollars, the prequel would cost triple what Amazon paid for “The Man in the High Castle” seasons one and two, the documents show. That means it would need to draw three times the number of Prime members as “The Man in the High Castle” for an equal payoff.

What Is Amazon Prime? The Benefits, the Cost and Whether It’s Worth It

A standard Amazon Prime membership currently costs $119 per year — perhaps a steep price to pay for free 2-day shipping. But if you’re a bookworm, a video buff or just someone who often shops online, the benefits might well outweigh the costs. To help you decide whether it’s a good deal for you, we've broken down the basics on what Amazon Prime actually offers.

What is Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime is a subscription service from Amazon. It gives members access to exclusive shopping and entertainment services, discounts and more.

What are the benefits of Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime’s key benefit is its free two-day shipping on millions of eligible items. In some cities, you can even get same-day delivery on eligible orders. While Amazon does offer free standard shipping on qualifying orders of $25 or more to non-Prime customers, it takes five to eight business days for those orders to arrive.

But just as the company has expanded from amazon prime video phone number simple bookstore to a finger-in-every-pie empire, so has Prime extended its benefits to include:

Prime Now shopping

Prime Now narrows the free same-day delivery window on certain items — including Whole Foods groceries — to as little as two hours, but it’s only available in select metro areas.

Whole Foods deals

Prime members get an extra 10% discount on eligible sale items at Whole Foods Market, in stores and online.

Unlimited movie and TV streaming

You can stream thousands of TV shows and movies for free using Prime Video. Members can also subscribe to channels like HBO and Showtime for an additional cost.

Unlimited reading

Members can choose from over a thousand books, comics and magazines to read for free. The service is available on Kindle and Fire tablets, as well any iOS or Android device with the Kindle app.

Unlimited music streaming

You can listen to over 2 million songs and browse Prime Playlists, all ad-free with Amazon Music Prime. Prime members can also get a discounted subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited, which has over 70 million songs.

Free games

With Prime Gaming, you get access to free PC games and in-game content, plus a monthly Twitch channel subscription.

Prime Day and Prime Early Access

Prime members get the exclusive perk of shopping annual Prime Day deals. During the rest of the year, you’ll get access to Lightning Deals with a 30-minute head start on non-Prime members.

Free unlimited photo storage with Amazon Photos

A Prime membership gives you unlimited, full-resolution photo storage and 5 GB video storage. Your photos will be added to the cloud through the Amazon Photos app, which you can access from both your computer and mobile device.

Amazon Elements

As an Amazon Prime member, you have access to Amazon's own consumer-first line of everyday items, like baby wipes.

Amazon Family

Free for all Prime members, Amazon Family offers family-oriented coupons and deals, including up to 20% off diapers when you set up five Subscribe and Save subscriptions per month, and a 15% baby registry completion discount.

Before you build a budget

NerdWallet breaks down your spending and shows you ways to save.

How much does an Amazon Prime membership cost?

Whether Prime’s membership perks justify the price tag depends on which ones appeal to you and how much you use them. Let’s start by evaluating two of Prime's biggest draws: shipping and streaming entertainment.

  • Shipping. If you spent more than $119 in shipping fees last year, well, there’s your answer.

  • Streaming entertainment. Amazon Prime, which includes Prime Video, is cheaper than both the commercial-free Hulu plan and the standard Netflix plan. Prime also includes Amazon Music Prime, which is about the same price as ad-free subscriptions to Spotify and Apple Music. If the video and music selection is wide enough that you’d consider forgoing a subscription to other services, you’ll recoup the cost of Amazon Prime.

There are other considerations to take into account, such as the convenience of having your items shipped in days instead of weeks, or not having to go to the store to buy essentials like paper towels.

Keep in mind, too, that you can share your shipping benefits with another household member. If you split the cost with a roommate, for example, you can effectively cut the cost down to under $60 a year — a pretty amazing deal. Free two-day shipping for less than $5 a month is well worth it for most shoppers.

The best way to figure out if an Amazon Prime membership is worthwhile: Sign up for the free trial. Then, you can decide whether to make the investment.
